Founded in 1887, with machinery bought from the Cardhu Distillery, William Grant created Glenfiddich. Still in the hands of the Grant family, Glenfiddich is the biggest selling malt whisky worldwide and remains Scottish owned and independent. In fact, relatively recently one in three bottles of single malt sold was a Glenfiddich. Some of this success is owed to the fact that William Grant pioneered the marketing of their whiskies as 'single malts' at a time when malts were produced to supply the blended whisky producers. Thanks for creating the category! It's a vision that has paid off, with the three-sided bottles now a very familiar sight. William Grant describe Glenfiddich as a 'chateau' style distillery i.e. it handles the whole production process on the premises, from distillation to cask ageing and finally bottling. Despite the volume of sales, it still has direct fired stills. Every year 125,000 visitors make the trip to the Distillery to see Glenfiddich for themselves. House style: |
